About Vishal Luther
I (drluther.co.uk) am an EHRA certified specialist in cardiac electrophysiology (ECES) and cardiac devices (ECDS). I care for patients with heart rhythm disorders, undertaking all forms of ablation procedures and implanting complex pacemaker/defibrillators.
I have a particular interest in the 3D mapping of Atrial and Ventricular Tachycardia, with a PhD, awarded from Imperial College London, and several publications for my research using Ripple Mapping to guide ablation in these arrhythmias. I coordinated a UK multicentre randomised trial comparing mapping techniques, and was recipient of the prestigious Heart Rhythm Society 2019 “Eric Prystowsky Fellow Clinical Researcher Award” for the highest scoring abstract involving this research. I have taught Electrophysiologists throughout Europe on Carto Ripple Mapping on behalf of Biosense Webster, and have been an invited speaker for the British Heart Rhythm Society annual meetings discussing complex mapping techniques. In October 2021 I was awarded a 2 year NIHR research scholarship to develop as an independent investigator, and am applying these skills as chief investigator for an industry sponsored multicentre UK atrial tachycardia mapping trial.
I am the founder of www.cardiowebinar.com, which offers a programme of free virtual education mapped to the cardiology curriculum to support education in response to the COVID pandemic. We have produced >70 webinars covering the breadth of Cardiology, forging networks and relationships with expert Cardiologists throughout the country. The programme is endorsed by the BCS, BHRS and BJCA, and our webinars have an international audience with >20,000 views. This achievement resulted in my appointment as the Programme Lead for the Mersey Deanery virtual training days.
I am an Advanced Life Support instructor and led the production of a simulation video of cardiac arrest in Covid-19 that has received well over 100,000 views. I am faculty for the “Arrythmia Alliance” and “A-Fib Association” national Patient education days (since 2018), annually speaking to both small and large patient groups.
I am the Associate Chief Clinical Information Officer at LHCH, driving the trusts digital aspirations to improve cardiology care. In this role, I have created a series of patient videos explaining common arrhythmia procedures available on our trust website https://www.lhch.nhs.uk/our-services/cardiology/heart-rhythm-management/catheter-ablation/
