About Randolph P. Martin

Dr. Randy Martin is an accomplished cardiologist, academic, medical correspondent, and consumer educator. His extensive medical career includes training at Emory University School of Medicine and Stanford University Medical Center.

Since then, he has held faculty and clinical staff positions at many prestigious universities and medical centers, including the University of Virginia Medical School and Mayo Medical School and Clinic. Dr. Martin returned to Emory University School of Medicine in 1989 as Professor of Medicine and Director of the Non-Invasive Cardiology Lab, a position he held until 2009.

Dr. Martin has a keen interest in consumer education. Beginning in 1994, he was the director of Emory’s nationally-recognized Mini-Medical School – a nearly year-long course for consumers to emulate medical school experience. Over 7000 citizens of Atlanta graduated from Dr. Martin’s Mini-Medical School.

Dr. Martin also served as the sole Medical Correspondent for Cox Communications’ flagship station, WSB-TV, Channel 2 in Atlanta, a position he held for 15 years. During this time, he was awarded multiple broadcast awards, including three Emmy nominations. He won the American Heart Association’s Howard L. Lewis Lifetime Achievement Award for Health Reporting – becoming the first physician television journalist to do so.

In partnership with Piedmont Healthcare, Dr. Martin launched HealthWatchMD.com in 2011, expanding his audience and disseminating up-to-the-minute health news to the Atlanta Community and beyond. In 2012, Dr. Martin joined ShareWIK Media Group as Chief Medical Officer, helping to share real patient stories and contributing to the ShareWIK Friday Flyer video series. Dr. Martin has been a prolific academician with over 195 publications to his credit in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, as well as a number of teaching CDs and DVDs. Dr. Martin has served and currently serves on editorial boards of some of the most prestigious cardiovascular journals.
