About Kimberly Smith

As a physician and researcher dedicated to ending the HIV epidemic, I have made it my life’s work to answer the unmet needs of those living with HIV.

Since I began my career at the start of the HIV crisis as a clinician in Chicago, Illinois at Rush University Medical Center, I’ve focused on addressing the gender and racial disparities that are endemic to the HIV community while providing a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. I’ve seen firsthand the evolution of this epidemic through the eyes of the individuals I’ve treated; from the devastation it has brought to countless communities, the incredible scientific innovations that have been made to save lives, and the ongoing stigma that persists today. My foundation on the frontline of HIV guides my patient-focused approach to understand and address the unmet needs of the community in order to advance treatment and care for all people living with HIV.

Today, as the Head of Research & Development for ViiV Healthcare, a company solely focused on HIV, I uphold this mission by leading the research and development of innovative new treatments and prevention options that are driven by the goal of leaving no person living with HIV behind.

We’ve made incredible progress in a short window of time, having launched more than 25 late-stage clinical trials for seven medicines during my tenure. As we strive to revolutionize the management of HIV through regimens that decrease the lifetime exposure to medicines and long-acting options that significantly decrease dosing days, I and our dedicated team of HIV specialists will continue to be here until HIV isn’t.
