About Fola May
Dr. Folasade (Fola) May is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCLA, physician in the VA, and Director of Quality Improvement in Gastroenterology at UCLA. She is also Associate Director of the UCLA Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Equity, Assistant Director for the UCLA STAR program, and Director of Grants and Postgraduate Research at the UCLA Global Health Program. She is currently an Expert Advisory Board member for Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology Expert Advisory Board, an editor of the New England Journal of Medicine Evidence, and a member of the Multi-Society Task Force (MSTF) on Colorectal Cancer.
Research: Dr. May is a health services researcher in the VA and the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center with a focus on preventive health, population health, and health care disparities. She is the Director of the May Health Services Laboratory at UCLA and oversees a research team that conducts research in epidemiology, health services, value based care, and implementation science to improve access to and uptake of preventive services at UCLA, the VA, and Federally Qualified Health Centers. Prevention efforts are focused in colorectal, liver, esophageal, gastric and pancreatic cancer.
Quality Improvement: She is the Director of QI for UCLA Division of Digestive Diseases. Current QI projects include endoscopy appropriateness, PPI overuse, hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance, colorectal cancer screening, and follow-up after abnormal CRC screening.
