About Christopher C. Thompson

Dr. Thompson is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Director of Endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has over 200 publications and is a recognized leader and innovator in the medical device space. He is a successful investigator, founder, and consultant, with expertise in development, clinical trials, and strategy.

Dr. Thompson’s academic activities have been extensive. He has been issued multiple patents, has received numerous Department of Defense grants, and has been the principal investigator for several multicenter medical device trials. He has also served on the Partners Healthcare Commercialization Council, the Harvard Medical School Admissions Committee, and on the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the Quality Assurance Committee for Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Thompson has also achieved success in commercializing nascent technologies from academic medicine. He co-founded Beacon Endoscopic during the 2008 financial crisis, obtained angel and VC funding, and successfully attained CE Mark and FDA approval. Beacon established ISO 9004-certified manufacturing, built a sales force, and signed agreements for global distribution – reaching use in over 75 academic centers within 6 months. The company had a successful exit in 2013. Subsequently, Dr. Thompson has founded and funded GI Windows.

Since 2004, Dr. Thompson has been a consultant for numerous start-ups and blue chip companies in the medical device space. Additionally, he has provided regulatory consultation as an FDA liaison and an expert panelist for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. He has also been an invited lecturer for Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, Cambridge Consultants, Harvard Business School, and the MIT Deshpande Institute, and has given numerous international lectures in Europe, Asia, and South America. Most recently, he became General Partner at the BlueFlame Healthcare Venture Fund.
