About Brian Murphy

I aim to better understand how the brain functions normally, and how it can dysfunction in neurological conditions. I’m especially interested in higher cognition – that is how we understand and interact with the world around us. To do that better we need to gather truly massive datasets of brain activity, out in the real world – which is what I’m doing now with my start-up.

I have a mixed career background: mixing start-ups with research, and with an education in engineering, cognitive science, computational neuroscience and machine learning. I use state-of-the-art data science methods to decode cognitive states and disease mechanisms from recordings of brain activity, with a range of neuroimaging technologies, and relate these patterns to what a person is doing or how they are performing at a given moment.
