About Alex Sparrowhawk
After my HIV diagnosis in 2009 I started to look ahead to the future. In my mid-twenties the long-term plan was to progress in general insurance and at a much later date side-step into the third sector – before gliding into retirement.
In 2015 I was approached out of the blue to apply for a job at Terrence Higgins Trust and catapulted into the world of HIV and sexual health. Firstly I realised that working for a charity was anything but undemanding, and secondly I was grateful I hadn’t waited until my 50s to shift career paths.
Over five years I’ve coalesced my professional skills and experience with my passion for building positive relationships and my HIV advocacy work. I’m highly motivated, hardworking and analytical with an aptitude for excellent communication and organisation. Reliable and willing to receive high levels of responsibility, experienced in delivering work to tight deadlines and adept to operating as an individual or member of a dynamic team.
I thrive building relationships at all organisational levels and with a variety of external stakeholders. I’m passionate about building capacity in advocacy around HIV and sexual health, and providing the people our sector serves with the knowledge and skills required to use their own voices to advocate for their own health and wellbeing needs.
