FagronLab™ UV Air Steriliser Proves Successful Against COVID-19 Virus

A leading pharmaceutical company has launched a new UV air steriliser which has been tested and proven to kill the virus responsible for COVID-19 after just 10 seconds.

The FagronLab™ UV Air Steriliser is a state-of-the-art device designed to keep people safe from coronavirus and stave off any potential infections. The device uses long-life, C-band (wavelength 253.7nm) ozone-free ultraviolet to improve microbial air safety against viruses, bacteria, and fungi, including Sars-Cov-2 (COVID-19).

In a recent study carried out by an independent laboratory, several contaminated samples were placed in the air chamber of a FagronLab™ UV Air Steriliser in critical positions, based on the airflow inside the device. The samples were then analysed after their exposure to the UV-C radiation while the air circulation operation was on. The results showed the device significantly reduced the viral load of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (Sars-Cov-2), the virus responsible for COVID-19, after 10 seconds.

The preliminary result has been described as “promising” by Eurofins, the laboratory who conducted the initial study. Further experiments regarding the effectiveness of the FagronLab™ UV Air Steriliser device in different airflow conditions in closed spaces are expected to be carried out in due course.

FagronLab™ UV Air Sterilisers provide dynamic indoor air disinfection for enclosed spaces such as hospitals, pharmacies, labs, waiting rooms, schools, offices, retail stores, gyms and more, helping to keep people safe when returning to normal work life.

Each device is equipped with two large suction vents that draw in air particles – including any contaminants – into its core. Inside the core, air is trapped and decontaminated by five double high intensity UV-C germicide lamps. The clean air then passes through the conductor vent and back into the environment, making the air safer to breathe.

Dan Barton, Marketing Communication Manager at Fagron, commented: “We’re thrilled to introduce the FagronLab™ UV Air Sterilisers to the UK market. We know how important safety is in the workplace following the pandemic and the new FagronLab™ UV Air Steriliser is truly an ingenious device that’s simple to operate and maintain. It works by continuously disinfecting the air, creating a safer environment in closed spaces.

“Moreover, as it helps combat all manner of viruses and bacteria, it’s a great way to keep workspaces and offices as clean and hygienic as possible. Anyone implementing this device in the workplace would be investing in the future of their own health as well as the health of the staff, customers and business as a whole.”

The Farjo Hair Institute in Manchester installed two FagronLab™ UV Air Sterilisers in January. Leading surgeon and founder of the institute, Dr Bessam Farjo, said: “The safety of both our staff and patients is our utmost priority, and for this reason, we are operating a careful and responsible level of service to make sure our facilities are ‘COVID-secure’.

“The introduction of two new FagronLab™ UV Air Sterilisers is but another measure we’re taking to keep everyone safe, as well as following social distancing guidelines and using equipment/PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) USA and NHS UK etc.”

Consultant pharmacist, Sunil Kochhar works at Regent Pharmacy in Gravesend, Kent. The FagronLab™ UV Air Steriliser is just one of many safety measures they have introduced in the pharmacy.

Sunil said: “As we’ve remained open as an essential business throughout the pandemic, we’ve had to go the extra mile to ensure our facilities are ‘COVID-secure’ whilst customers are coming in and out of the pharmacy.

“The safety of both our staff and customers has always been our number one priority. Due to the nature of our business, many people who enter the pharmacy are already vulnerable due to ongoing illness or caring for a loved one, so we can’t risk any chance of infection on the premises.

“The introduction of the new FagronLab™ UV Air Steriliser is one of the many measures we’re taking to keep everyone safe. It’s a compact unit that doesn’t take up too much space, and simply plugs in and gets to work. It’s simple to use, doesn’t require any additional time to operate and cleans the air as we continue to work through our normal day-to-day activities. We’ve had some customers comment that our pharmacy is the only place they have seen this kind of measure in place, and they feel safer coming into the pharmacy because of it.”
