About Richard Issitt
I gained my Doctorate in cardiopulmonary bypass related neurological injury from the University of Southampton. I am a currently a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Fellow, Senior Perfusionist and Clinical Lead for the Digital Research Environment at Great Ormond Street Hospital. My current interests are in the utilisation of clinical data for predictive data analytics and application development in the healthcare setting and assessing clinical cardiothoracic data. As such I am currently study a Data Science pathway to develop a bioinformatician-perfusionist role in the future, and am the only Perfusionist to hold a British Heart Foundation Research Fellowship in which I am examining novel methods for facilitating paediatric heart transplantation.
I have authored more than 20 research papers and provided data visualisations and analyses that have been presented at International Conferences, and have lectured around the globe. I teach the paediatric module of the Bristol University M.Sc in Perfusion Science, and am a reviewer for multiple peer review journals.
I have helped establish GOSH as the most active perfusion research department in the UK. I am one of only 3 perfusionists to win the Society of Perfusionist’s research award twice, and was granted Fellowship to the College of Clinical Perfusionists in 2008.
